The Church Has Left the Building

Don't just go to church, BE the CHURCH.

We're cancelling our regular Sunday morning worship, so we can serve together.
Join in "leaving the building" by signing up to serve.

100,000 Meals packaging starts in:

Ames Housewarming

While serving the hungry in Haiti is a big part of The Church Has Left the Building, we also want to serve our community. We partner with several local organizations in providing housewarming items for those in need in Ames. We are gathering new or lightly used items to distribute to people at four local agencies. Want to help? View the list of items needed below and plan to bring them on Sundays beginning April 8th.

What is The Church Has Left the Building?

The Church Has Left the Building began in 2009 as a way for us to serve together as a church body. Over the years we've packaged over 632,000 meals. During this year's Church Has Left the Building we are packaging 100,000+ meals and collecting requested household items for our partner organizations as an Ames Housewarming.

Where do the meals go?

Our meals will go to our missions partners JeanJean and Kristi Mompremier with United Christians International in Haiti. Their mission rests in a rural area about 2 hours from Port Au Prince.

Do I have to register ahead of time to help package meals?

Yes! We have a limited amount of space at each session.

Is there a cost to participate?

On average 1 person can package 160 meals in an hour or about $40 worth of food. This event is free, and while funds from our crop fields are used, donations are welcome to provide the remainder of the necessary funds for the meals and transportation. Donations can be made online or at the event on April 29th.

I've heard a Pancake Brunch and Escape (from Poverty) Room mentioned. What's that about?

Following your packaging shift you are invited to join us for fellowship during a pancake brunch in Gather 2 (Suggested brunch donation: $5; $3 for children under 5yrs; $20/family) AND/OR an interactive learning experience in our Escape (from poverty) Room. Stop by C1-2 to sign up for this family-friendly, fun 30-minute learning experience.

Do I need to register ahead of time for the Brunch or Escape (from Poverty) Room?

There is no need to register for the brunch. Chris Cakes will be there flipping hot cakes for your post packaging refueling. There will be a paper sign up outside of C1-2 for the Escape (from Poverty) Room. Stop by before or after your packaging shift to see when it is available and to sign up.

Is there anything else I need to know?
  • Childcare is provided for 3 year olds and younger during the meal packaging event. Please indicate a need for childcare when you sign up for your packaging shift.
  • Wear some shoes you're comfortable standing in and get ready to have some fun serving while rocking a hair net and apron!
